The plan was to move from Zaurautz to Tordesillas

We left Chez Gendon under a cloudy sky, which soon turned to heavy rain. This lasted for most of the journey. Not the best way to leave France

While out shooting in Frigiliana discussions took place about our direction of travel. It was decided the best plan would be to head towards Portugal. Before crossing the border it was was suggested that we should stop over at Isla Christina, close to the border, to do some shopping.  Certain items are a lot cheaper in Spain than in Portugal so this was our chance to stock up on...

The town of Frigliana has a fascinating history to it.  The hill it is built on apparently saw the final battle with the Moors, with the remains of a fort above the town.  The towns museum is full of artefacts and remains dating back over four thousand years that were found in the many caves around the town.  My plan for the day was to follow a walk that I had downloaded onto my...

Frigliana is a typical ‘white town’ that can be found on a mountain ridge, overlooking the sea in the province of Marbella.  The town was voted the prettiest town in Andalucia by the Spanish tourist board.  It is split into two, the new and the old town.  The old consists of narrow cobbled lanes climbing the steep slopes that it is built on.  The whitewashed buildings, with their...

The beach at Torre del Mar is four kilometres long and is bounded by a wide esplanade with a good variety of trees planted for shade and decoration. This, combined with the many cafes, restaurants and bars, plus numerous fountains and monuments make it an interesting place in the quiet season. A 3.2 kilometre running surface has been create the length of the main part of the beac...

Torre del Mar is one of those seaside resorts that the Spanish flock to during the summer.  In the low season it is a quiet, quite charming town without looking deserted, the way so many resorts look off season.  The first impression is that of space, with wide promenades and parkland, plus the empty car parks at our end of the beach.  As with most Spanish towns that I have visit...

On paper, or to be more precise on screen, the campsite near Manilva should have been perfect.  Next to the beach, close to the town, swimming pool and plenty of bars around.  In reality it was another mistake.  The pool was closed, and thanks to a photographer with a wide angle lens, was no where near as big as it looked on the website.  The site was very formal, reflecting the...

Valdevaqueros is a small village near to Tarifa, and was our next stop. This was just a short visit, only two nights. We arrived with thunderstorms and left with them, but the time in between was hot and sunny.  The area is well known for kite and wind surfing with strong, clean winds a regular feature.  The coast of Africa is clearly visible and I was surprised at the size of th...

I suppose my love of black and white imagery stems from the darkroom.  I was never really interested in colour printing, then once I became a portrait and wedding photographer I was forced into it.  I used to print much of my own work, this was a dark period of my life, not only printing colour but photographing people!
